Lease Return Checklist

#1: Schedule a Lease Inspection

You should schedule a lease inspection at our dealership 60 to 90 days prior to your vehicle’s return date. Scheduling months in advance will give you plenty of time to situate a new lease agreement or to find a new Buick or a new GMC to buy.

The end-of-lease inspection is meant to check out your leased vehicle’s condition. The lease inspector will check for these aspects:

• Bald tires
• Dents, scratches, or gouges on the exterior
• Needed body repair work
• Upholstery tears
• Carpet stains and more

#2: Prepare for the Inspection

Your leased vehicle will be inspected for any unusual wear and tear upon its return. In order to avoid any fees, you can detail your vehicle ahead of time. At this point, you’re also going to want to take your ride into our service center for any needed maintenance or body repair.

For the exterior, we recommend giving it a thorough scrub and wax to keep the paint looking brand new. If the vehicle has experienced any cosmetic damage, you should have that fixed at our capable body shop.

When it comes to the interior, you’re going to want to do the following:

• Shampoo the upholstery
• Vacuum the floors, the mats, and under the seats
• Have any upholstery burns or tears repaired
• Wipe down all surfaces
• Remove personal information from the infotainment system

#3: Check the Mileage

Leases come with a set mileage limit. It’s important to check the mileage before you return your vehicle to see if you’ve stayed within the limit or not. If you’ve gone over, you can expect to be charged a mileage overage fee.

#4: Gather Important Documents

Before the return date, there are a few important documents and pieces of equipment you should gather. For instance, if you were given multiple sets of keys for the vehicle, you’ll want to make sure you have all of them with you.

You’ll also want to bring these items with you:

• A copy of your lease agreement
• The owner’s manual
• The vehicle’s maintenance guide
• Any original equipment, like key fobs, garage openers, or charging cables that came with the vehicle

#5: Return Your Lease

Return day is here! If you’re unsure when the return date is, you can consult your lease agreement.

Prior to returning your leased vehicle, you should schedule a drop-off time with us. At that time, you’ll bring all the important paperwork with you. Once at our dealership, you’ll just park the leased vehicle in one of our lots, hand over the keys, and drive away in your next ride.
